APRIL 17 -MARCH 17, 2010: LAFITTE RED FISH

Well it has been a while since I’ve written a report but I going to try to keep on it from trip to trip. AS OF NOW WE ARE NOT AFFECTED BY THE CURRENT OIL SPILL IN THE GULF OF MEXICO. I’ve been fishing a good bit since my last report April 10 when I had my good friends in from Arkansas, since then I have fished April 17, 19, 21 and 22nd in deep water for the big bull reds and drum. Its always a good time reeling up those big fish but they have moved in and so did we.  I started fishing in the inside water, lakes, bays and bayous on April 25th and 29th and on May 1, 5, 6, 8, 11, 14, 15, 16 and 17 and we have been doing really well on the inside—some days better than others—but all in all, the fishing has been good. We have been catching mostly red fish and drums, with a speck here and there. The winds during the last month haven’t let us get out and look for the specks. I’ve been fishing with gold spoons and spinner baits when the water is clear and fishing with market shrimp when needed. It has been a fun month and I have had some really good customers and we have had a lot of fun fishing together. To recap on the bold type above: We are not affected by the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. The media hasn’t really clarified what areas are affected and just state that south Louisiana’s coast has been covered in oil. The oil slick has stayed about 3 miles off the coast of Grand Isle and our fishing grounds are at least 30 miles north of Grand Isle. None of our waters have seen any kind of oil. I will be going back on the water on Friday May 21st and will try to have a report up that day.

April 6, 2010 – Windy Weather Reds

Today I had the pleasure of fishing with Mr. Jon Sprier and his two nephews Joe and Allen. The wind was blowing 10-15 mph at daylight and got to 20mph by 9am. There was no running out to catch the bull reds that we have been fishing with that kinda wind. Not a bad day of fishing – a tough one, but not bad. We ended up in the bays and marshes just south of Lafitte. Caught plenty of reds just under slot limit and put 11 keepers in the box with a drum fish. We fished with market shrimp under a cork or on bottom depending on where we set up at. A great time was had by all. It was the first time Joe and Allen had ever fished red fish. Thanks guys for the fun time today.

April 4, 2010 – Easter Sunday

Happy Easter. Yes it was. My wife and father in law wanted to go fishing after seeing the pics of the big bull reds I’ve been catching.

So I loaded the boat and took them for Easter. Mr.Billy has always been a big fish fisherman, so this was right up his alley. My wife doesn’t care what we are fishing for as long as she is fishing. Wind picked up a little so the ride was a little bumpy but not bad.

We caught 20 bull reds 25-35# and 10 bull drum 10-20#. What a blast we had! All the fish were caught on half a crab on bottom.

APRIL 1, 2010 – MORE BIG FISH

Picked up a trip late today. We left the dock around 2pm and was headed back to where I caught those big boys a couple of days ago. They were still there. I had Mr.Nate and Mr.Alex fishing with me today from San Francisco. Neither of ’em have ever fished red fish before and man were they excited when the first fish hit and started screaming line out. Even with a late start we were able to catch about 15 big reds and a couple drum. What a good time we had.

MARCH 30, 2010 BIG FISH

Today I had Mr.Chris and his daughter.

The day was nice and sunny not to hot just right. Perfect fishing day. I got us set up in a spot and started catching as soon as we got there and kept catching till it was time to go. All big bull reds and drum some as heavy as 40#.

They were happy cause that’s just what they wanted to catch big fish, and it was the first time they have ever been fishing for reds. Nothing like hearing the line scream off the reel with a big fish on the other end!

March 12, 2010 – Windy Weather Reds

The weather has not been cooperating for us I have had a couple of trips canceled due to the weather but that’s the way it goes.

The bull reds have shown up .Its a little ride to get to where they are but its a blast to fight a 20# bull red in deep water. I fished Mr.Jim ,Mrs, Molly and their two girls Kate and Abby today. We where gonna head out after the big reds but with the wind blowing 20+mph we opted to stay close in and avoid the rough waters. We ended up with 7 nice reds and a couple of throw backs . With the wind blowing so hard out of the north and the water muddy we had to fish on bottom with market shrimp. It payed off and everyone had a good time.

February 26,2010 – Gearing Up for Fishing Season

Hunting season has come and gone . Now its time to trade the gun in for the fishing pole. A buddy and I have been fishing bass since sometime in January . Despite the low water and cold weather we have been catching good number of nice bass. Its about time to start fishing for the red fish. I have a few trips coming up in the next week. Hopefully the weather holds up for them and we can get out and find some clean water to catch some fish in. I will post a report of how we do.
